Nenana logApril 10 Monday
Terry Preston WL7TY and Benny NL7XH changed out the 4 element Cushcraft 220 antenna with two 7 element M2 antennas. The system worked most of the time but experienced fades that dropped the noise quieting to about 70%. Stacking two 7 element antennas should give us about 6 more dB over the 4 element that we replaced. Had problems putting the brackets on the tower to mount the 1 1/2 in pipe. Mounted the two rear mount antennas on the vertical side of the ladder going up the tower. The antennas are not in the way of the ladder and the installation went very well. The 2â clamps really
grabbed the ladder and I cannot see any problems with the installation. The power divider was mounted on one of the tower support struts with a stainless steel radiator clamp. If we still have some fade problems we should replace the 8214 cable with low loss cable. This should give us another couple of dB improvement. The tower main legs are 4 1/8 " angle iron. It is formed in a triangle with each side 4 1/8" . The support struts are 2â angle iron. During the last visit to the site the temperature sensor was pulled out of the cable hole and was reading the inside temp. Moved the sensor back through the hole and checked out the temp reading (31 degrees). The wind was blowing like mad (about 20 to 30 miles per hour). Was really glad to get off the tower.Benny NL7XH
